Critical Care
Critical care medicine at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital provides care for children with traumatic injuries or life-threatening illness, or following major surgery in the region’s only pediatric critical care unit (PCCU). Our medical team provides around-the-clock care for our 16-bed unit.
In addition to intensive care, we provide a variety of services in and out of the hospital including:
- Nutritional support
- Apnea diagnostics
- Pulmonary function testing
- Intravenous access (temporary or long term)
- Management of home ventilation
- Flexible bronchoscopy
- Pain management
- Pediatric transport
- Sedation
- Complex patient evaluation
Meet the Team Our board-certified pediatric intensive care physicians and pediatric residents are supported by a team of intensive care nurses and nurse clinicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, physical therapists, child life specialists, and care management team members, all specializing in the care of children.
